สุดแสง
Sūt-Saeng ( End of the light )

A collection of abstract light sculptures

Shui's 'Sūt-Saeng' (Thai for 'End of Light') series is a collection of abstract light sculptures and patterns that explore the balance between darkness and illumination within forms reminiscent of traps and snares.

Each light sculpture is composed of a delicate yet malleable leather cutout balanced on a cylindrical hanging light fixture. The 'lasso'—a key element of each sculpture's form—allows the leather to be adjusted and counterbalanced, embodying the state of change as the leather stretches and grows into a new shape by the consistent pull of gravity. Accompanying floating sculptures made of drafting paper illuminate the connection between two-dimensional drafting patterns and the evolved three-dimensional leather forms.

Created in parallel with the composition of Thai and English poetry, transformations between both languages and spatial dimensions reflect the transformative power of vulnerability. Even within the cruel mechanisms of traps, there exists an experience that transcends solitude.

The process of being caught, though painful, can lead to a profound sense of discovery and release. Shui hopes that these works will invite viewers to contemplate the grace of the fall and the beauty that can arise from even the most challenging circumstances, ultimately finding light and companionship at the end of time.
